I am proud to announce my candidacy for the Carlsbad Unified School District Board of Trustees, Area 5.

As a parent of three Carlsbad students, I know how important our schools are to our families and our community. My family has been grateful for the teachers, programs, and opportunities Carlsbad Unified has provided our children, and I want to do my part to help make our schools even stronger.

Carlsbad has been our home for more than 20 years. I grew up on California’s Central Coast and attended public schools before graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy. I went on to serve our country for 20 years as a Naval Officer and Navy Pilot. I later earned my MBA through Columbia University in partnership with UC Berkeley.

For more than 25 years, I have also been a professional airline pilot and currently serve as a 737 Training Captain for a major airline. Throughout my career, whether serving in the Navy, flying professionally, training pilots, or representing fellow pilots as a union leader, I have learned that good leadership starts with listening, working together, making responsible decisions, and always remembering the people you serve.

Those are the same values I would bring to our School Board.

As a parent, I want what every parent wants: great teachers, strong academics, safe schools, meaningful opportunities for our children, and a school district that listens to families and uses its resources wisely.

My priorities include strengthening academics; supporting and fairly compensating our teachers; investing in art, music, STEM, sports, career and vocational programs; improving school facilities and safety; and making sure programs and policies support — rather than distract from — our students’ education.

Most importantly, I want to listen. I look forward to meeting more parents, teachers, students, and community members and hearing what matters most to you.
